Five Trends We Love

It’s funny how life gets in the way and suddenly months have flown by. I guess that’s my excuse for my delay in posts. I recently got a job at a local clothing store (Cheeky Peach) and its taken up a lot of my time. But being surrounded by clothes has reignited my passion for fashion. Hence the return of the blog and now we are back for good (hopefully).

For those of you who don’t know, I am in love with cold weather. Maybe its because I master layers more efficiently than any other style or because I can rock a sweater. So when fall fashion week comes around each year I get overly excited. I’ve been rocking so many great trends this season its hard to keep my love all to myself:

1. Laced up BootsPicture 6

If there is one item I can label as “my thing” it would be boots. I have an extensive (an continuously growing) collection. And this season I added my first pair of lace up boots. I will admit I was skeptical about the lace up boot trend but once I tried it I became hooked. They add the perfect amount of edge to any outfit.

#2. Fun Fabulous SweatersPicture 7

Nothing says cold weather like a cozy sweater. And this year sweaters have been given a fun twist. Whether its a heart shaped elbow patch or a disheveled edging, We are loving this seasons sweaters with attitude.

#3. Oversized TopsImage

This year we traded out our summer crop tops for falls oversized top trend. This trend is great for fashion lovers like myself who, like a bear, tend to like the figure go during the winter. Not only are these tops extremely comfortable they also are very flattering for all shapes and sizes.

#4. Tribal PiecesImage

Stores have been stocked with pieces composed of tribal patterns or with tribal inspiration. When I first saw them I wasn’t impressed but as I’ve tried mixing and matching this pieces I’ve come to love the bold statements they make. They are a great way to spice up your wardrobe whether with a colorfully printed cardigan or a bold sweater.

DIY Halloween Costumes: Unexpected Ideas

Every Halloween you risk the chance of having 6 other girls wearing your costume idea. If your like me and hate matching, then these costume ideas are for you. They are one-of-a-kind, unexpected and stylish!

{Dress, Collar, Purse, Vest, Tights, Ears and Tail, Bracelet, Shoes}

101 Dalmatians inspired this costume. Get a group of your friends together and goes as Dalmatians with a stylish twist. Start with a black and white polka dot dress. Add a black fur vest and polka dot tights. For fun I added this Dalmatian print bag and a red velvet bow collar (you can easily use red ribbon). Don’t forget dog ears and a tail. This is what will make you look like a dog. For Dalmatian make-up try this look. Now all you need is a Cruella de Vil.

{Dress, Shoes, Tights, Nail Polish, Wig}

A pinata costume is an unexpected Halloween costume choice. And it’s so easy to make. All you need is a rainbow colored dress or a colorful fringe dress. Pair with colored decorated tights and sequin shoes. Add some candy jewelry like a ring pop or candy necklace or string some lollipops together to make your own necklace. Don’t forget a bright colored wig and bright make-up like this candy themed make-up tutorial. You can easily make your own pinata dress using streamers. If you want a funny twist, try a black eye for make-up to be a beat up pinata.

Fashion Halloween Costumes

For you fashion lovers, Halloween is a great time to embrace your favorite fashionista. So here are some fashion icons for you to become this Halloween:

{Dress, Fur Coat, Sunglasses, Heels, Wig, Necklace}

No fashion-themed costume is better then the style enforcer herself, Anna Wintour. The best thing about this costume is it can be easily worn after Halloween. Pair a bright, stylish dress with a fur coat. Add killer heels, and a statement necklace. Don’t forget her signature bob and round sunglasses. Finish it off by carrying the latest issue of Vogue. You’ll have fashion-lovers drooling all over you all night long.

{Dress, Sunglasses, Clutch, Shoes, Necklace}

There is no better costume then the style and TV queen herself, Carrie Bradshaw. All you have to do is pick out your favorite Carrie look whether it is from the TV show or the movies. I personally loved this white and gold look from the movie. All you need is a white dress paired with a gold clutch, gold aviators, gold sparkle heels and a statement necklace. Don’t forget Carrie’s signature untamed mane. You can try doing it yourself with this tutorial.

{Layered Pearl Necklace, Pearl Necklace, Hair Pin, Dress, Gloves, Eye Liner, Sunglasses, Shoes}

I like to think of Holly Golightly of Breakfast at Tiffany’s as the original Carrie Bradshaw. She oozed style, sophistication and spontaneity all in one. And the best part about being Holly for Halloween is you probably own most of the costume in your closet already and if not they’ll be a great addition. Start with a basic black dress. Pile on the pearls (lots and lots of them). Add black gloves, black round sunglasses and black pumps. The key to the look is her hairstyle accessorized with a crown-like hair pin. Check out this tutorial to get Holly’s hairstyle. Holly’s make-up is a little easier. The key is the winged out black eyeliner. Check out this tutorial to get Holly’s make-up.

{Blazer, Shirt, Necklace, Tie, Sunglasses, Pants, Shoes, Fingerless gloves}

For all you fashion loving men, Karl Lagerfeld is the perfect costume for you and probably can be made 100% from your closet- except maybe the fingerless gloves I don’t know many guys who have a pair of those laying around. All you need is a white dress shirt, blazer, dress pants and black dress shoes. The key items to the costume that make it Karl Lagerfeld are the fingerless leather gloves, sunglasses, a stylish tie and a bit of bling. Mr. Lagerfeld loves to accessorize. The dye your hair grey and viola you’ll be ready to strut down the Halloween streets.

DIY Halloween Costumes: Stylish Yet Scary

Halloween means ghost, goblins and everything scary! So what’s a girl to do to be scary yet stylish this Halloween? Is it possible to be both? YES it is! Here are a few popular scary costumes with a whole lot of style.

{Fake Blood, Top, Pants, Earrings, Fake Fingers, Bracelet, Booties}

Zombie is a classic Halloween costume yet you don’t have to look dead or decaying to pull this look off. Pair a distressed top with faded and slashed pants. Add edge with studded boots and accessories with bone jewelry. If your a True Blood lover, like myself, then your probably saw Arlene’s scary yet stylish zombie costume. I loved her toe necklace which is easy to recreate. I chose fake fingers for my costume. Take fake fingers and tie them to a string or a chain for a stylish yet gory accessory. Another gory accessory idea: Tie a ribbon to a fake severed head and carry it like a hand bag. Finish off the look with dark make-up like this dead sexy (pun intended) makeup tutorial, messy hair and LOTS of fake blood. If you want scarier make-up check out this tutorial.

{Tights, Fangs, Dress, Ring, Necklace, Heels, Blood Shots, OPI Red Shatter Nail Polish}

Movies like True Blood and Twilight turned vampires from scary to sexy. Now they can be stylish too. For this fashionable vampire costume I paired a black vixen dress with spider web tights. Accessorize with a bat chain necklace, vampire teeth ring and blood red pumps. OPI’s shatter nail polish in red is perfect for your vampire look. As for make-up, check out this vampire makeup look. Don’t forget your fangs, bit of fake blood and maybe a bottle of true blood or blood shots.

{Dress, Necklace, Lipstick, Mirror, Shoes, Nails, Tights}

We all know the legend of Bloody Mary: say Bloody Mary in front of the mirror three times and Mary will come through the mirror and scratch your eyes out. Bloody Mary is the perfect scarey and stylish costume. It’s easy to get this Victorian vixen costume. Start with a lace dress or any Victorian-esque dress.¬† Pair it with a Gothic choker, slashed leggings and blood spatter heels (these can be easy to DIY). Finish the lip off with red lip and red Gothic eye make-up or bloody eye make-up. Don’t forget to carry around a hand mirror.

{Pants, Shirt, Boots, Hat, Gloves}

Don’t worry guys I’m not leaving you out! A werewolf costume is perfect scary style that can be easily made with clothes in your own closet. All you need is a plaid shirt, jeans and work boots. The only things you’ll probably have to buy is fake hair to make you hairier and a wolf mask. Check out this werewolf pack that comes with a fur hood and gloves (and it’s on sale). This outfit would be fun paired with Little Red Riding Hood if your looking for a couples costume.

Which scary look is your favorite? What will you be going as for Halloween?

DIY Halloween Costumes: The Classics

Store bought costumes are so ordinary. This Halloween be extraordinary and create your own costume. Today we’ve taken a few classic costume ideas and given them a stylish twist. The great thing about creating your own stylish costume is it will be one of a kind and you can easily wear the pieces in your day-t0-day wardrobe.

{Dress, Handcuff Necklace, Handcuff Bracelet, Chain Cuff, Booties}

Who’d of though prison stripes could be so chic. Well with this prisoner costume you’ll be doing time style. Find yourself a stylish black and white striped dress. Accessorize with handcuff necklaces and bracelets. Add some chain bracelets and dramatic dark make-up. Need a fun hair idea? Wrap your hair around empty coke cans a la Gaga in Telephone. It’s the jail version of curlers.

{Dress, Headband, Tights, Bag, Heels, Lipstick, Pearls}

A 20’s flapper is a classic and cute Halloween costume idea. And it’s so simple to recreate. All you need is a fringe dress, feather hair piece, fishnet stockings and layers of pearls. Don’t forget a sparkly bag and to smear on a red lip. As for hair try out this cute vintage hair do by Lauren Conrad and for makeup try this tutorial.

{Dress, Basket, Hooded Scarf, White Knee-Highs, Blush, Heels}

Got a red dress sitting in your closet? Well it’s so easy to turn that red dress into a Little Red Riding Hood costume. Add a red hooded scarf or a red hooded cape. Pair it with white knee-highs, basic black pumps and don’t forget the basket. This costume is sweet and demure. Have your make-up reflect that with pinks on your cheeks and eyes. Check out this make-up tutorial for more tip ideas. Now all you need is a big bad wolf.

{Bikini Top, Skirt, Necklace, Bracelet, Earrings, Sandals, Fake Eye Lashes, Ring, Clutch}

Mermaid is a great cute and stylish costume idea. Plus it’s so easy to make. All you need is a green maxi skirt and a bikini top. Accessorize with sea-themed jewelry like seashell necklaces, fish rings, and coral pieces. You can buy seashell jewelry or do it yourself. My favorite thing I found are these sea-themed fake eye lashes. For your hair keep it natural with beachy waves and pin in sea shells. Or try a fish tail braid. Check out this tutorial for mermaid inspired make-up.

Which classic look is your favorite? What will you be for Halloween this year?

Fall Trend: Chunky Knits and Maxi Skirts

{Yellow Skirt, Brown Skirt, Merlot Skirt, Burnt Orange Skirt, Beige Sweater, Red Sweater, Yellow Sweater, Navy Sweater}

Today’s fall trend is perfect for transitioning your summer maxi skirts into the perfect fall staple. They key: mix you flowy maxis with your chunkiest sweater for the perfect contrast. Runways were steaming up with this trend from Jean Paul Gaultier to Paul & Joe making this trend the quintessential fall outfit..

What I love most about this combination is it’s cozy and earthy feel. The combination of flowy with chunky knit has the feel like I should be walking through a field of flowers. But that might just be me. This combination looks best when paired with heeled boots and booties. Keep the accessories natural to go with the earthy feel but don’t be afraid to add color.

{Bag, Sweater, Skirt, Booties, Necklace, Bracelet, Ring}{Scarf, Sweater, Necklace, Skirt, Bangles, Bag, Boots, Ring}

Will you be wearing the trend this fall?

Fall Trend: Polka Dots

{Bag, Maxi Skirt, Shirt, Sleeveless Top, Detachable Collar, Dress, Flats}

Polka dots are usually associated with Minnie Mouse or dalmatians. They have youthful yet retro feel to them. And this season polka dots are been revamped and remade. Designers like Marc Jacobs have made polka dots fresh and chic. The key to wearing polka dots (and wearing them well) stick to one piece. This will also prevent the dalmatian look.

{Bag, Skirt, Top, Bangles, Heels}

Don’t be afraid to mix texture or pizazz into your polka dots. Try adding sequins like in the outfit above or even a studded top. Try adding texture with a chunky knit or add pair a dotted top with a tweed skirt.

{Red Polka Dot Top, Striped Skirt with Red Belt, Blue Polka Dot Top, Navy Stripe Skirt}

Want a young, fashion forward way to wear spots? Try mixing polka dots with other patterns such as stripes. It is a quirky way to wear spots and will make you stand out.

Will you be wearing polka dots this fall?

Inspired by… W Magazine September Issue

W Magazine happens to be one of the many magazines I subscribe to. I love the edgy fashion features. I get some much inspiration from W. In their September issue they showcased falls favorite jeweled-tone colors, furs and some lady-like accessories in the More, More MORE feature. These three looks are a few of my favorite. One because of their colors, and Two because they showcase stylish ways to rock the monochromatic trend. Here’s how I recreated the looks:

{Blazer, Necklace, Bracelets, Bag, Top, Skirt}{Jacket, Earrings, Pants, Shirt, Bag, Jagged Ring, Oxfords, Smooth Ring}{Tee, Pants, Clutch, Blue Belt, Green Belt, Blue Flats, Green Cuff, Jeweled Bracelet}

Tip**Wear the two colored belts together for a unique layered effect.

Which look is your favorite?

Fall Trend: Cobalt Blue

{Pleated Skirt, Fitted Dress, Bowler Bag, Maxi Skirt, Heels, Clutch, Grecian Dress}

Cobalt seems to be the color of fall as it dominated the runway in shows by designers such as Issac Mizrahi and L’Wren Scott. This color is a great color as it’s flattering on all skin types. It’s a must-have color to work into your fall wardrobe.

{Black Tee, Pencil Skirt, Booties, Bag, Bodycon Dress, Blazer, Necklace, Heels}

Make your cobalt pop by pairing it with neutrals like black and beige.

Dress It Up{Dress, Heels, Bangles, Bag} Dress it Down {Pants, Shirt, Necklace, Watch, Flats, Bag}

Cobalt is a gorgeous color that can be both your go-to color for day and night. A cobalt dress is both flattering and stylish for a night on the town. Pair cobalt pants with a casual top for a fun, yet simple day look.

What’s my favorite way to wear cobalt? With a bag. It’s perfect for adding a pop of color to any fall look.

How will you being wearing cobalt?
