The Perfect Winter Piece!

Open Knit Sweater- H&M, Skinny jeans- Forever21, White tank- Nordstrom

On my most recent shopping endeavor I found a black chunky knit open sweater from H&M that I have fallen head over heels in love with.  It was only $15 and the knit plus the style makes it an irresistible piece for the winter. It’s so warm and comfy I can’t take it off. Georgia has been extremely cold this winter and Sunday we got snow flurries (which is a big deal in Georgia). It didn’t stick but with the cold, the wind and the snow flurries I was thankful to have my new sweater to wrap up in with hot coco and a good book. There is nothing better than a chunky knit on a cold winter day. Chunky knits are great for warmth and super stylish for the winter season. Which makes chunky knits the perfect winter piece!

Chunky knits are bold, which is a big part of their appeal. So when planning an ensemble around a chunky knit keep it simple. When wearing a chunky knit you want to go for a more relaxed style. So I recommend pairing it with a pair of skinny jeans or leggings. If you want to dress up your chunky sweater then pair it with a sleek neutral colored skirt, and opaque tights or opt for a chunky knit sweater dress. Boots are the perfect footwear to wear with chunky knits but keep your boots simple. Since your sweater will be so bulky keep the boots tall and smooth to balance out the ensemble. When it comes to accessorizing a chunky knit here are a few tips:

  1. Skip the necklace! Since the bulk of your ensemble will be on top (the chunky knit) it’s best to skip accessorizing with necklaces or scarves. These will only add more bulk to your neck/face making your outfit appear top heavy.
  2. Bracelets are the perfect accessories for chunky knits as they help balance out your look. But keep the bracelet simple and basic like a gold cuff.
  3. How to wear your hair? Sleek! Too much curl in your hair will just add more bulk to the top of your body. So keep your hair sleek and straight or pull it up in a sleek ponytail. Or for a unique hairstyle try my new favorite look: a fishtail braid (a tutorial on how to fishtail braid to come).
