No look is complete without the shoes to polish it off. Being a young adult and college student I now how money and comfort play into what shoes you wear. While flip-flops are the cheap and easy option, they are not the most practical considering we are nearing the end of October. There is one shoe trend that has been heating up all over the world. Fashionistas in Finland, Russia, France and the United Kingdom have blurred the defined gender lines in footwear by opting for the more masculine shoe style: oxfords. Yes, I said oxfords. Like the ones your grandpa used to sport. But oxfords are no longer just for grandpas, they now can be found on the feet of trendsetters like Rhianna.
Oxfords have been recreated for a cute, quirky shoe style that can be worn by any fashionista this season. There are many ways to wear oxfords this fall. There is the option of the more traditional look, just like grandpa used to wear. Traditional oxfords can be found in store everywhere but for a more unique look (and greener way to shop) check your local vintage shops for a classic and worn look. Or for a more bold choice you can embrace the metallic look. You can now find oxfords in shiny metallic colors from gold to silver. Pair these bold shoes with your favorite pair of jeans, button-up shirt and top it off with a colorful scarf for a fun, casual look. If you want to add a little more femininity to this masculine trend then look for oxfords with feminine details such as lace, floral patterns or bows. These feminine touches add a chic touch to your oxfords. For oxfords that are versatile look for them in shades of grey, navy, and brown. For more dressy oxfords look for them in black patent, they can be paired with dresses for a great ‘night out’ ensemble. One of my favorite oxfords are oxford booties. They look chic and can polish off any outfit.
Oxfords can seem like the hardest shoes to style but they are really quite simple. The thing I love most about oxfords are how versatile they are and how you can work them into so many different looks. Here are a few different but chic ways to rock your oxfords.
#1. Casual: Pair your oxfords with a pair of relaxed jeans and a simple cardigan. Or switch out the jeans for a casual skirt and add a pair of grey knitted scarves for a simple but chic outfit whether for class or lunch with friends.
#2: Business Casual: Add your oxfords to a pair of skinny jeans and a cropped blazer for a great structured look.
#3: Night Out: Pair your oxford booties with a black-banded skirt, opaque tights and a basic grey top. Or for an edgy look wear a simple grey dress with a leather jacket and lacey tights. Polish both these looks off with a statement necklace for a hott and chic look.
